SPRING  WHISPERS

by Alice M. Batzel

At last, long-awaited sunshine

and warmer temperatures.

Snow melts.

Warm rains awaken lawn and ground.

Small green sprouts shyly peek,

foretelling tulips, daffodils, and crocus.

Brave pansies shed silence and

courageously speak with spontaneous bloom.

Birds venture out, hop on wobbly legs,

flap winter-weakened wings, and chirp in delight.

With newfound strength,

they claim the ground, tree, and sky.

Gardeners refresh yards and flower beds.

Yards get a good raking, brushing, and aeration.

A hearty fertilizer nourishes

lawn and garden soil.

Voices of man and nature once again

resound outdoors.

All speak of anticipation, faith, and hope

in the promise of a season of new life.

Young and old, strong and infirm,

embrace renewed joy and vigor.

“Come and see!”

“Spring whispers, ‘I am coming. Surely, I am here.’”
