BEACH  THERAPY

by Alice M. Batzel

The sea calls to her

over meadow, desert, mountain,

wherever she may be.

The whisper of the breeze

carries her to water and shore,

safely at a harbor in her memory.

She sits in solitude,

watching the endless blue ocean,

sorting through what is,

reflecting on loss,

dreaming of what might have been,

imagining what still could be.

Wounds of the heart, missed opportunities,

questions of life, unmet dreams,

long for answers and peace.

Reliable rhythmic waves,

the salty air’s warm embrace,

comfort and mend her brokenness.

Expansive sky and vast ocean

give her sanctuary and solace,

to safely search her soul.

Emptiness finds filling,

longing finds hope,

hurt finds healing.

Wherever she may be, the sea calls to her.

She answers with willing heart, mind, and body,

transporting her through time and space.

In meditative commune with ocean and shore,

she places her feet in the seaside water,

opens her soul…and breathes.
